Media is our weapon of choice as we change the world, one story at a time. Founded in November 2001, the mission of the Urban Mediamakers is to support a strong independent media arts community. We promote the production, exhibition and public awareness of various forms of artistic expression including filmmaking.

The Urban Mediamakers emphasize work that is produced by or featuring people of African, Latin and Asian descent. We empower by providing instruction and training of individuals for the purpose of developing and improving their media capabilities by conducting industry-related panels, educational series, and workshops.

The Urban Mediamakers Association is a 501(c)(3), tax exempt, not-for-profit, charitable organization that brings talented and aspiring individuals together to focus all forms of media. Guided by past wisdom and reflecting the new generation of mediamaking, we are dedicated to thinking out of the traditional box. We depend on powers beyond ourselves to provide opportunities, open doors and guidance as we serve our members and the community.

Through our Young Urban Mediamakers (YUMs) program, we are partnering media professionals with youth ages 13-19 to encourage, inspire and educate them in all areas of media. Our annual signature event is the Urban Mediamakers Film Festival (UMFF) held in October in metro-Atlanta, Georgia. [Make a donation to the Urban Mediamakers.]
